I came across stacks of boxes while cleaning out my mother’s home after she died. These taped up cardboard boxes, hidden away in closets not opened in years,. held family memories and small pieces of history - letters, scrapbooks and framed photos. They also held clues to lives led long ago - calling cards still in a silver case, a wedding dress for a tiny corseted waist, silver cigarette cases that still smelled of tobacco, silver backed brushes and combs from vanity tables in bedrooms long ago, hats and gloves tucked into their original boxes from the 1950’s and ostrich feathered fans used by ladies from the turn of the century.
Family Lore is a portfolio of found memories. These photographs are a way for me to piece together and remember the family stories I had been told when I was little. And as a way of continuing the story.
The photographs in this collection have all been hand printed using the platinum palladium process.
