Leaving & becoming

In 202,I began photographing my daughter in middle school. Photography had become a way to connect with her world, to hold onto the child she still was. Collaborating on these images with her allowed me to be a part of her world as she was leaving mine.

When she graduated from high school and left for college, the project felt complete. But when she returned home after graduation for eight months, I found myself drawn back to the work. This time, she was an adult returning less guarded, more open and mature. Yet the essence of the child she was once, was still there.

The accordion format of this book has allowed me to visually depict her metamorphosis from childhood into adulthood. Viewing her through my lens, both literally and metaphorically, serves as a poignant reminder of the bittersweetness of her leaving and becoming.
