My photographic work often explores how memory is embedded in place. A personal journey began after my mother's death, as I sorted through her legacy of cabinet cards, journals, and family histories. These archives revealed a strong lineage to my grandfather's Quaker relatives in 19th-century Pennsylvania and New Jersey, whose lives were defined by faith, community, and quiet resilience.
This journey led me to an 1814 Quaker meetinghouse in Casco, Maine. Its simple, quiet architecture drew me in, and stepping inside felt like entering another era. Photographing this space was a deeply contemplative process, propelling me to further research my family's heritage and the Quaker principles that were central to their lives.
The images for this series are printed on handmade Kozo Gampi paper, a choice that echoes the tactile quality of the old letters and Bibles I discovered among my mother's belongings.
